On 23rd July 1558, after a petition by the inhabitants of Disley, the chantry chapel founded by Sir Piers Legh of Lyme was consecrated as a parish church. Since then St Mary’s Church has been a much loved focal point of our village.
To this day the church is home to a vibrant worshipping community and is the venue for so many of the key events of our personal and community lives, including baptisms, marriages and funerals.
The gift of heritage also brings responsibilities and of course in modern times the costs of maintaining the work of the Church and its historic buildings are very high. For St Mary’s this is about £95,000/year.
